It’s a stacking game. Honestly, it’s not like any game you’ve ever played before. We like to describe it as a multiplayer, four-dimensional, strategic stacking challenge. The fourth dimension is your Imagination, as you are free to stack your blocks how you choose.
We chose Red Alder for a number of reasons. It grows here in the pacific northwest, and shares two useful characteristics; it is both a weed and a hardwood. As a weed it grows quickly making it eco-friendly for the project, and being a hardwood offers some durability. It has a consistent look, weight, and feel throughout its grain, making it a pleasure to play with.
The “tooth” of the unfinished natural grain of the wood makes certain moves possible. A sanded or slick finish would affect the state of play.
Children as young as 4 years and adults as old as 80 years have enjoyed this game. Gravity is good for dexterity and hand-eye coordination, so there are many benefits to playing!
This one took a bit of research. While we are not psychologists or neurologists, we believe it’s because the game is kinesthetic in nature --it’s touchy, feely. The shape, texture, and weight of the block in your hand matters every time you attempt to add it to the stack. This causes your brain to consider physics, geometry, and of course --- “Gravity” in a way it doesn’t typically have to, so your brain is forced to measure on the fly. These characteristics of the game have the ability to generate a type of excitement you can’t get from every game.
We encourage it! More than once we’ve been told that making shapes with the blocks on a table, or stacking the blocks on your own has a calming, or Zen affect; besides, practice makes perfect, right?
The Gravity brand is committed to being an American Brand. Employing American companies and American workers will remain at the top of our priorities
Eco-friendly is a relative term, but the Gravity brand is committed to making sure the game is biodegradable, because we think that’s a good start. Beyond that, we are working with American textile manufacturers to purchase canvas loomed in America with organic naturals grown here in the U.S. We are committed to this concept, and we are looking thoughtful toward to the future.
